Participants from the first Nourish & Connect Mid Ulster programme gathered recently at An Ráth Dubh, Moneyneena, to celebrate the completion of an enjoyable and informative eight-week health and wellbeing programme funded through PEACEPLUS and delivered by Network Personnel on behalf of Mid Ulster District Council.
Over the eight-week programme, participants took part in a wide range of practical activities designed to improve health, wellbeing and community connections. Sessions included healthy cooking, food budgeting, growing your own food, reducing food waste, wellbeing activities and a visit to Donnelly Social Farm, and Buchanan’s Farm Shop to learn more about local food production and sustainable farming.
The final session saw participants prepare and enjoy a delicious three-course meal together, using the skills and knowledge gained throughout the programme. One of the featured dishes, Spanish Meatballs with Patatas Bravas, demonstrated how simple recipe adaptations—such as using pork mince instead of more expensive lamb or beef—can create healthy, affordable meals while helping to reduce household food costs.
The celebration concluded with fun wellbeing activities, providing participants with an opportunity to reflect on the friendships, confidence and new skills they had developed over the course of the programme.
