Improving the local community through Work IT

Improving the local community through Work IT

Are you a community or voluntary organisation in Newry, Portadown, Lurgan or Coalisland?  Could your organisation benefit from a small community project?

We are offering community and voluntary organisations from Newry, Portadown, Lurgan and Coalisland areas the opportunity to avail of support from our Community Projects Officer and volunteers to deliver a range of community projects such as:

  • clean ups
  • gardening support
  • painting and decorating
  • arts and crafts
  • up cycling of old furniture
  • maintenance
  • community fun days
  • and much more!

The community projects are aimed at helping or enhancing the local area as well as building local community capacity.  We can also provide up to £200 assistance per project through the Work IT programme.

Some of the local projects we have supported recently include:

MindWise Garden Project

Work IT completed a one day project in the MindWise garden. This included a general tidy up of the garden, weeding and potting plants. Work IT participantsJeff and Connor helped out on the day and as can be seen from our before and after photos made quite a difference to the MindWise Garden.

St Vincent De Paul –

Work IT participant Stephanie prepared packs for new mothers in the Tullygalley and Moyraverty areas as part of a one day project with St Vincent De Paul.  This project was designed to support new mothers in an area that has a high rate of teenage pregnancies.

Chrysalis Women’s Centre

A room which is used by local groups to meet in the Chrysalis Women’s Centre was given a makeover by Work IT participant Kerry.  The makeover included a general tidy up and a new coat of paint.
